fall fireside favorites!

Fall is honestly my favorite time of year. I love the cooler weather because it means I can wear cozy sweaters and sit by the fireplace wrapped up in warm blankets eating warm treats.

To complete the perfect night in, my friend and I made marshmallow topped brownies and hot chocolate from scratch.

img_7804First, I gathered my ingredients needed to make the brownies:

  • Ghirardelli brownie mix (w/ ingredients from instructions)
  • Jet-Puffed marshmallows
  • mini M&Ms

Next, mix up your brownie mix in a medium size bowl with the specified ingredients, pour out the mix into a pan and bake the brownies for about 20-25 minutes.

Here are the plain baked brownies!

Right when the brownies come out of the oven, start placing the marshmallows in rows on top of them. This way, the marshmallows can begin to melt on top of the brownies.

Once you cover the whole brownie pan with marshmallows, place it back in the 350 degree oven for an extra 3-4 minutes until all the brownies get golden brown.

Finally, broil them for an extra minute so that the marshmallows brown like s’mores in a fire! Keep an eye on the marshmallows so that they don’t burn!

I took out the brownies when they were about this dark in color, but if you prefer them lighter or darker adjust the cook time accordingly.

Finally I added M&Ms on top to make the treat a little more colorful!

Yum. These were perfect “indoor s’mores”to indulge in by the fire.

In addition to the brownies, I also made some delicious hot chocolate, with the following ingredients:

  • 2 cups 2% milk  (or more depending on how many cups you want to make)
  • 1/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • marshmallows

Start by measuring milk in the mug you will eventually drink from. Then pour the milk into a small or medium sauce pan. I was making hot chocolate for my friend and I, so I used two cups of milk.

Next, start to warm up the milk by turning on the gas to medium-low heat. Once it begins to simmer and small bubbles begin to form, pour about a 1/4 cup of semisweet chocolate chips

As the chocolate starts to melt, mix it into the milk, and you will see little specs of chocolate float on the top.

Then, finally add in the vanilla extract once the mixture gets browner.

Lastly, pour the hot chocolate through a tea strainer to drain out the leftover specs of chocolate.

To top off the hot chocolate, chop up the leftover marshmallows from the brownies and add them atop your hot drink!

Enjoy your hot chocolate right by the fireplace to warm your body and mind.

Further indulge your senses by lighting a beautifully smelling fall candle. My choice is the Marshmallow Fireside candle from Bath & Body Works. It smells just like the brownies I made, so it was the perfect pairing!
